LOFOTEN ISLANDS, NORWAY (August 7-8, 2026) — The Lofoten Islands are above the Arctic Circle at about the same latitude as northern Alaska, southern Greenland, and northern Siberia. However, they are at the terminus of the Atlantic Gulf Stream, so the ocean never freezes there. We docked at the town of Leknes (the trading and shopping center of the region), located in the center of the Lofoten Archipelago, and visited a nearby Viking Museum. From there, we cruised toTrollfjord, about 60 km to the east. At 2 km long, 100 m wide at it’s narrowest point, and less than 100 m deep, it is quite small compared to Geiranger Fjord. Finally, we then sailed to Tromso.
